NBA commissioner Adam Silver has said Mexico City could one day be considered for an expansion team, Mexico News Daily reports.
Speaking on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Silver said expansion was still a few seasons away and that the league has publicly been looking at Las Vegas and Seattle. He described Mexico City as a possibility further down the line, noting it is the largest city in North America and closer to New York by air than Los Angeles is.
Silver also mentioned talk of a new arena in the capital, though he said it was not in immediate plans. ESPN reported earlier this month that a Mexico City group had approached the league's expansion advisers with a plan for a franchise built around a new arena. The NBA will play a regular-season game in Mexico City next season between Denver and Indiana.
