Nigeria's electoral commission, INEC, did not publish the preliminary voters' register on its website by the deadline set in the Electoral Act 2026, Premium Times reports.
The law requires the register to be displayed for public scrutiny, both at registration areas and online, for seven days no later than 90 days before a general election. With presidential and National Assembly polls set for 16 January 2027, that deadline fell on 18 October. INEC displayed registers at local registration areas from 9 to 15 October, but its online portal still said no preliminary registers were available when the paper checked on Wednesday.
An INEC spokesperson said the register had been published at registration areas for claims and objections, and that the commission is compiling a clean copy for publication by a December deadline.
