Norway wants gaming platforms such as Roblox included in under-16 social media ban

·

Norway's government has widened its planned age limit for social media so that it would also cover gaming and chat platforms it considers harmful to children, The Local Norway reports. The government said the rules would apply to services whose design, features or content put young people's development, health or safety at risk, naming TikTok, Snapchat and Roblox as examples.

Children and Families Minister Lene Vågslid told NRK that some platforms present themselves as games while relying on algorithmic recommendations and advertising aimed at children. The limit would run until 1 January of the year a child turns 16, and platforms would have to verify users' ages. The minority Labour government needs support from other parties to pass the bill, which it plans to present by the end of 2026.
