A home care nurse from Telemark in Norway has been sentenced to four years and six months in prison for stealing from elderly patients while at work, the Norwegian broadcaster NRK reports.
According to the indictment, she stole from at least 11 people over four years, taking large amounts of gold jewellery, wedding rings, watches and a complete bunad, Norway's traditional costume. She was also ordered to pay about 1.2 million kroner in compensation.
The case began in 2024 when relatives of one victim spotted jewellery they recognised in online sale adverts and contacted police, who later searched her home. She had told the court she collected old items and had inherited or been given jewellery, but the court found the similarities too great to accept her account. Her lawyer said she intended to appeal.
