Olivia Chow has won a full term as mayor of Toronto, defeating the councillor Brad Bradford, as voters also elected seven new members to city council, Global News reports.
Chow first took office after a byelection in 2023. In Monday's municipal vote, 18 incumbent councillors were returned, while several others were defeated or stood down. Frances Nunziata, the council's longest-serving member, is leaving and will be replaced in York South-Weston by Chiara Padovani.
The incoming councillors include the former Liberal MP Nate Erskine-Smith, who takes Bradford's old Beaches-East York seat, and the former MP Shaun Chen, who defeated the incumbent in Scarborough North. The former councillor Mike Layton returns to represent University-Rosedale. Diana Chan McNally, Curran Stikuts and Sara Ehrhardt were also elected.
