A delegation from China's People's Liberation Army held defence strategy talks in France and Germany between 21 and 28 October, despite growing trade tensions between Beijing and Europe, the South China Morning Post reports, citing China's defence ministry.
The ministry said the sides discussed military relations and regional and international security, and agreed to strengthen communication and expand defence exchanges. Paris and Berlin made no public statement, and Beijing did not say who led its team. It is the first such PLA visit to Europe since 2023.
The talks come weeks after France and Germany jointly proposed an EU mechanism to restrict market access for countries that distort markets, widely seen as aimed at China. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier began a five-day state visit to China on Tuesday.
