Richard Quintal, the former chief executive of Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN-S), has gone to court claiming wrongful dismissal and breach of contract, Global News reports.
In his claim, Mr Quintal says MN-S president Glen McCallum told him in April that he would be dismissed without cause, which he attributes to political pressure from the Provincial Métis Council. His contract had been extended to July 2030. He says that after an emergency council meeting in May the dismissal was replaced with a suspension, which he believes was meant to avoid paying him the rest of his salary as the contract required.
He says MN-S later told him it was investigating how his contract had been extended. Mr Quintal is seeking severance and damages. MN-S has responded to the legal action, according to Global News.
