Argentine prosecutors appeal dismissal of Milei charges in $LIBRA crypto case

·

Argentina's Office of Administrative Investigations is challenging a judge's decision to drop the case against President Javier Milei, Karina Milei (his sister and chief of staff) and nine others over the $LIBRA cryptocurrency affair, and has asked for the case to be reopened, MercoPress reports.

The specialist prosecution service, led by Sergio Rodríguez, took over the case after prosecutor Eduardo Taiano dropped it and Judge Marcelo Martínez De Giorgi approved the dismissals. It argues that important lines of inquiry remain open, including tracing funds, analysing communications and examining possible commercial agreements, and that the evidence was judged piece by piece rather than as a whole.

It also wants investigators to consider whether the president's conduct could amount to a conflict of interest offence. Federal Court No. 8 will now decide, with a fallback appeal to the Federal Appeals Court.
