Oman has evacuated 25 crew members from a burning crude oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, Al Jazeera reports, as Iran said three oil tankers had been stopped while trying to use routes it has not authorised.
The Omani Maritime Security Centre said the Panama-flagged vessel, the RITI, had been evacuated on Friday. It was not clear whether it was one of the ships named by Iran's Revolutionary Guards, which said two tankers had met with 'incidents' and that a supertanker carrying more than two million barrels had exploded and caught fire.
Iran has asserted control over much of the waterway since the US and Israel launched the war in February and has warned unauthorised ships of destruction. The US military rejects Iran's mine claims, and its Central Command chief said the main transit routes had been cleared.
