Prosecutor tells Russell Brand jury his six accusers have nothing to gain

·

The prosecution has delivered its closing speech in the trial of Russell Brand at Southwark crown court, telling jurors that the six women accusing him came forward without any wish for publicity or reward, The Guardian reports.

Brand, 51, faces seven charges, including rape and sexual assault, relating to six women over a ten-year period from 1999. He denies all of them.

Riel Karmy-Jones KC argued that the complainants, who do not know each other, had not been pushed into going to police by a 2023 Dispatches documentary about the comedian. She said they had given detailed and consistent accounts, with several describing him switching suddenly from charming to frightening before the alleged assaults, and that they had sought no compensation.
