Barbara Barrie, the actor nominated for an Oscar for the 1979 film Breaking Away, has died at her home in New York City at the age of 95, NBC News reports.
Her agent, Gary Gersh, said her death was medically assisted under New York State's Medical Aid in Dying law, which she had supported. The law came into force on 5 August and lets terminally ill adults with under six months to live obtain medication they take themselves. Her daughter told the New York Times that Barrie had terminal cancer and also lived with a lung disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Barrie played Evelyn Stohler in Breaking Away and was Tony-nominated in 1971 for the musical Company. She also earned Emmy nominations, including for Law & Order and its spin-off Special Victims Unit.
