Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston's office has sent a complaint to a Toronto university professor over his comments about a proposed AI data centre, Global News reports, citing The Canadian Press.
Sibo Chen, an associate professor of communication at Toronto Metropolitan University, had said in an interview that public worries about the project's water use and possible electricity price rises were reasonable. A communications adviser in the premier's office emailed him calling the remarks slanted and irresponsible, copying in his department chair and a CBC reporter.
The $10bn project by Everwind Fuels would be leased to the US AI company Anthropic for 20 years and has drawn concern from residents and opposition parties. Chen said the email appeared designed to intimidate him and that his views rest on peer-reviewed research. The premier's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
