Two Romanian F-16 fighter jets shot down two jet-powered drones that had entered the country's airspace over the Black Sea on Friday, Romania's Defence Ministry said, according to the Kyiv Independent.
Radar first picked up a group of targets about 120km east of Snake Island. The jets were scrambled from Borcea air base and brought down the two drones over Romanian waters within a few minutes, after they had spent around five minutes in national airspace. The ministry said they were of the Geran type, a fast, high-flying attack drone Russia uses against Ukraine, but did not say which country they belonged to.
Romania, a NATO member, has recorded several drone incursions in recent months, and ships off its coast have been hit in recent weeks.
