Russian drone strike halts German-owned car wiring plant in Lutsk

·

Kromberg & Schubert has stopped production at its electrical wiring factory in Lutsk, north-western Ukraine, after Russian drones struck the site on 16 October, the Kyiv Independent reports. The German-owned company announced the shutdown a day later, saying staff safety was its first concern and that it was assessing the situation before deciding on next steps. It has not said when employees will be able to return.

The plant makes wiring systems for carmakers including BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Skoda, and employed about 5,500 people as of May 2025, according to the company's website. Lutsk lies far from the front line but has been hit repeatedly since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. On 14 October a Russian drone attack on the city killed six people, the regional governor said.
