An eight-bedroom house in San Francisco's Presidio Wall neighbourhood has sold for $28.5 million, $10 million above its asking price and a record for the city, The Guardian reports.
The Cherry Street property was listed at $18.5 million on 2 October and sold on 22 October. Built in 1966 to a design by the local firm Whisler-Patri, it has an unusually large plot for the city, including a private garden and three-car garage. It had been in one family for more than 40 years.
The paper links the sale to the artificial intelligence boom, whose highly paid workers have pushed housing costs sharply higher. Citing the San Francisco Chronicle, it says more than 140 homes sold for at least $1 million over asking in the first half of the year, compared with eight a year earlier.
