Schools in England told to treat antisemitism as a distinct form of harm

·

Schools and colleges in England are expected to be required to recognise antisemitism as a separate category of harm and act against it explicitly, under an independent review led by former Ofsted chief inspector Sir David Bell, The Guardian reports. The review, due to be published on Wednesday, found that three in five Jewish students had experienced antisemitism, while fewer than half of all students surveyed believed it would be dealt with if reported.

The government is expected to accept all 27 recommendations. They include teacher training on antisemitism awareness, a national advice hotline for school leaders, stronger Holocaust teaching and encouraging schools to adopt the IHRA working definition. Bell also called for clearer guidance on political impartiality. The Community Security Trust recorded 178 antisemitic incidents in schools in the first half of 2026, up from 112 a year earlier.
