A Serbian organised crime prosecutor investigating alleged corruption around a planned Trump Tower in Belgrade was targeted with Pegasus spyware, according to research published on Monday and reported by Politico Europe. Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto and the Serbian digital rights group SHARE Foundation said Rade Bajić received an Apple threat notification in August after speaking out about political interference.
The project, linked to Jared Kushner, would redevelop the former Yugoslav army headquarters and has faced claims of irregularities over the removal of the site's heritage protection. The same research says the phone of Vladan Đokić, rector of the University of Belgrade and a prominent figure in the student protest movement, was infected. In September, at least 14 activists and opposition figures in Serbia were warned they may have been targeted.
