Sonia Gandhi, chair of India's Congress Parliamentary Party, has said her forthcoming memoir is bound to cause a stir but will allow her to set the record straight, The Hindu reports.
In a short video posted on X on Tuesday, she said that others had spent decades telling her story and that it was now her turn. The book, titled Belonging: A Journey of Love, is due to be published on 10 November.
In the video she is shown leafing through the pages and wondering aloud whether to tell the whole story, before recalling the moment her late husband, the former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, was asked to take the top job, which she said she had opposed. She acknowledged that some people might think worse of her after reading it. The clip includes footage from her marriage to his assassination.
