The United States has chosen Poland to host a new centre for servicing PAC-3 missiles used in Patriot air defence systems, Notes from Poland reports.
Germany, the Netherlands and Norway had also competed for the facility, according to the deputy defence minister, Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka. The US Department of War, announcing the choice on Tuesday, said the centre would greatly shorten turnaround times and secure supply lines, and that placing it on NATO's eastern flank showed the alliance was serious about deterrence. Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden will lead supply chain work.
The defence minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, welcomed the decision and thanked President Karol Nawrocki, with whom the government usually clashes, for helping to secure it. The competition was launched in July, and the site was picked by the US government together with Lockheed Martin, which makes the missiles.
