Police in Tamil Nadu have recaptured all 17 remand prisoners who broke out of the district jail in Theni, completing the search in less than 40 hours, The Hindu reports.
According to police, the inmates claimed one of them was having an epileptic seizure. When a warder opened the cell, they overpowered him, then assaulted staff at the main gate and took the keys before escaping in small groups.
The Inspector-General of Police for the South Zone, Vijayendra Bidari, set up 17 special teams, and officers also searched across the border in Kerala. Most of the men were caught on Tuesday, some with the help of drones, and two more on Wednesday. The last two, brothers hiding in hilly ground, were caught on Wednesday afternoon between Cumbum and Gudalur.
