Prosecutors in Mexico City have opened an animal cruelty investigation after at least three dogs died from suspected poisoning following walks in Parque España, in the Condesa neighbourhood, Mexico News Daily reports.
Police found a piece of sausage containing a blue capsule filled with white powder, though officials have not identified the substance or confirmed a link to the deaths. Residents reported a fourth death, and a local veterinary hospital said five dogs arrived with seizures, three of which died.
Cuauhtémoc borough mayor Alessandra Rojo de la Vega asked for surveillance footage to be reviewed and offered legal help to families. The park remains open, but its dog run and children's areas have been closed for cleaning. Police have stepped up patrols and owners have been urged to stop pets eating anything from the ground.
