A former waitress at the Royal Thurso Hotel in the Scottish Highlands has been awarded £13,048 after an employment tribunal found she was discriminated against, GB News reports.
The tribunal in Edinburgh ruled that Daniesha Charles, who was 15 when she worked part-time at the hotel in May and June 2024, suffered discrimination on the grounds of age, sex, race and disability. She was paid £7 an hour.
The hearing was told that a chef repeatedly shouted and swore at her, including after she dropped a bowl of apple crumble and when she misspelt porridge on an order slip, and sometimes referred to her as "it". When she asked to work fewer hours because of her college course, the chef and the general manager yelled at her. Ms Charles, now 18, had depression and anxiety and stayed silent to protect her job.
