The Oslo football club Vålerenga has banned between five and ten of its own supporters for between five and 50 matches after trouble at an away game against Lillestrøm at Åråsen earlier this autumn, NRK reports.
During the match about 140 seats were destroyed, toilets were damaged and walls were covered in graffiti, while flares, barriers and pieces of seating were thrown towards the pitch from the away section. The club's security chief, Ronnie Bergheim, told NRK the bans covered vandalism, threatening behaviour and breaches of the rules on pyrotechnics, and that more were expected as cases were still being handled.
The first sanctions took effect before a match against KFUM Oslo on 12 October. The club's ultras group has displayed a banner in support of banned fans, and told NRK it could not defend everything that happened at Åråsen.
