The leader of the Tigray People's Liberation Front, Debretsion Gebremichael, has said Ethiopia's northern Tigray region remains at war and that his forces are still fighting federal troops, Africanews reports.
In a message broadcast on Tigrayan television on Wednesday, he claimed several recent tactical victories and said the region would remain "a graveyard for its enemies". Last week he said the rebels had put hundreds of federal soldiers out of action in northern and central Tigray. These claims could not be independently verified.
The Ethiopian army retook the regional capital, Mekelle, earlier this month after the TPLF withdrew. Analysts have warned that the army's advance could increase the risk of conflict with neighbouring Eritrea.
A drone strike killed four people in southern Tigray this week, and other strikes hit civilians and a school in the Amhara region, where the army is fighting Fano militias.
