President Donald Trump has signed an executive order setting up a women's health division within the National Institutes of Health and a White House women's health task force, CBS News reports.
The first lady, Melania Trump, whom the president credited with the idea, joined him at a Rose Garden ceremony on Monday and also signed the document, although her signature carries no legal force. The president promised more announcements but gave no details, and it is not yet clear how much money will go to research or new treatments.
A White House spokeswoman said the task force would aim to close research gaps and improve care for women at every stage of life. During the event Mr Trump praised his chief of staff, Susie Wiles, who announced in September that she was free of breast cancer after a diagnosis in March.
