Christiane Amanpour, CNN's chief international anchor, will leave the network at the end of June next year after more than four decades, NBC News reports, citing a memo from CNN's chief executive, Mark Thompson.
Thompson told staff that Amanpour, 68, would cut her CNN International programme to one edition a week early in 2027 before it ends in May. He said the pair had discussed the decision for months and that he accepted it was the right moment for her.
Amanpour has reported on most major conflicts and crises of the past 40 years, from the Bosnian war and the Gulf war to the invasion of Ukraine and the war in Gaza. In a statement she thanked her colleagues and crews. Her departure follows the recent completion of Paramount Skydance's takeover of CNN's parent company, Warner Bros Discovery.
