Ukraine says it has used a drone to airlift a wounded soldier from the front

·

The Ukrainian army has released footage of what it describes as the first evacuation of a wounded soldier from the front line by an aerial drone, Euronews reports.

The drone unit of the 92nd Assault Brigade said the soldier had been hurt at a position where a normal evacuation could not be carried out because of landmines and Russian drones. The footage shows the injured man fastening himself to the drone, which then lifts him away and flies him to a landing point, where he is set down safely while operators watch from a control room.

The brigade has not said when or where the evacuation happened, and the account has not been independently verified. Drones have become central to the fighting in Ukraine, where the threat from the air makes moving casualties away from front-line positions especially dangerous.
