China has for the first time confirmed that it is in talks about a possible three-way meeting between Xi Jinping, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, Meduza reports. Foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a briefing that China was keeping in contact with the relevant parties about a potential meeting of the Chinese, Russian and US leaders.
The meeting could take place at the Apec summit in Shenzhen on 18 and 19 November. Citing Bloomberg, Meduza said the statement, made about two weeks beforehand, suggested Beijing was ready to host it. The Kremlin had earlier said work was under way on such a meeting. According to the Wall Street Journal, Putin suggested the format to Trump in a call on 9 October, hoping to settle the war in Ukraine on Russia's terms, while Trump has said he would mainly want to discuss nuclear disarmament.
