Jordan's air force says it has carried out strikes on armed groups in southern Syria in response to Friday's deadly assault on a Greek Orthodox church in Karak, a city in the south of the country, in which nine people died, The Guardian reports.
The military said many members of what it called terrorist groups were killed or wounded, but did not name them or give the exact location. Syrian state media said at least five civilians, including women and children, died in the strikes in Daraa province. Jordan said it acted in coordination with Damascus, but Syria said it had opened an investigation.
Earlier on Monday, Jordanian authorities arrested three men over the church attack after a dawn shootout. Officials named them as two brothers and their brother-in-law, all Jordanian, and said they were Sunni militants acting alone rather than for any organised group.
