BlackBerry chief sees AI-powered robots as next growth area for QNX software

·

BlackBerry's chief executive, John Giamatteo, says robots driven by so-called physical AI are becoming a major source of growth for the Canadian company, CNBC reports.

Speaking on Monday, he said BlackBerry's QNX operating software now runs in some 275 million vehicles as well as in robots, medical equipment and supply-chain systems. Robotics is one of the fastest-growing parts of the QNX business, and the unit's royalty backlog has passed $1.2bn after rising by more than $250m over two quarters.

Mr Giamatteo said Nvidia has adopted QNX as the standard platform for its Halos safety system, opening up work on autonomous forklifts and warehouse robots. BlackBerry, once a leading smartphone maker, has seen its shares rise by about 142% this year, giving it a market value of roughly $5.4bn.
