The Canadian Armed Forces has named the four service members who died in Saturday's fire at CFB Wainwright in Alberta, Global News reports. They are Sgt Morgan Wong of Edmonton, Pte Shaun Farrell of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Pte Aidan Goulding of North Vancouver and Pte Hayden Lykkemark of Langley, British Columbia. All four served with the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, based at CFB Edmonton.
Maj-Gen Wade Rutland said the soldiers were taking part in high-intensity live-fire training, partly to prepare for a deployment to Latvia next spring, when a grass fire started in the training area. Unusually strong winds drove it quickly towards the range's administrative area, and the cause is being investigated. Alberta's premier, Danielle Smith, said 39 people were being treated in hospital, at least 19 of them in critical condition.
