The US Treasury has added two Cuban nationals, six companies and two tankers to its sanctions list as Washington steps up pressure on Cuba's oil, shipping and electronics trade. Those named on Thursday include Cuban state firms Tecnosime and Cubaelectrónica, the shipping lines Internacional Marítima and Petromarca, Chinese state-owned electronics wholesaler Beijing H&C Technologies and Panama-registered Tentacool Commercial. The Cuban-flagged tankers Emilia and Gloria C were also listed, along with Cyprus-registered shipper Caroil Transport Marine. The Office of Foreign Assets Control also issued a determination covering Cuba's electronics, manufacturing, marine and technology sectors, which could allow it to sanction firms working in those industries, including companies based outside Cuba. The measures fall under an executive order President Trump signed on 1 May.
