Nearly a third of people who started receiving Personal Independence Payment (Pip) for an anxiety disorder in the past two years were aged 16 to 24, according to Department for Work and Pensions figures reported by GB News. That age group accounted for 7,403 new awards, and people under 35 made up more than half of the total.
Of the 72,195 people claiming Pip for anxiety in July 2026, more than 24,000 had started in the previous two years. Overall, 4.09 million people in England and Wales were entitled to Pip at the end of July, up 7% on a year earlier. A government-commissioned review of the benefit led by the former health secretary Alan Milburn, who has called the system no longer fit for purpose, is due this autumn. Alex Burghart told GB News ministers were holding the report back until after the Budget.
