The US ambassador to Argentina, Peter Lamelas, has said Washington will keep financing investment projects after 2027 if the country continues moving to the right, the Buenos Aires Times reports.
Speaking in Neuquén on Tuesday at an event linked to an oil and gas forum, Lamelas said the US was assessing energy, mining and infrastructure projects that could mobilise up to $20bn. That is almost three times a $7bn package reportedly agreed in September, much of it aimed at the Vaca Muerta oil and gas formation. He linked the 2027 cut-off to next year's presidential election, in which Javier Milei plans to seek a second term.
Lamelas did not give a timetable or list the deals involved. He also repeated US criticism of Chinese companies' role in Argentina's energy and technology sectors.
