Moscow's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, has announced plans for a 'palace' for veterans of what the Kremlin calls its special military operation in Ukraine, the independent outlet Meduza reports.
The facility will be created by converting the existing War Veterans' Social Rehabilitation Centre in Yekaterininsky Park, in the city's Meshchansky district, which is already being renovated. The work is due to be finished by the end of 2027.
Sobyanin said the complex would bring recovery and rehabilitation services together under one roof, with an emphasis on flexible, daytime and short-term programmes so that veterans can take part without leaving their jobs and families. In February he had said the surrounding park would be made fully accessible for veterans as part of improvement works.
