Birmingham locals say park trenches will not stop traveller encampments

·

Residents in south Birmingham say trenches dug around local parks will not stop travellers from setting up camp near their homes, GB News reports.

Birmingham City Council has spent recent weeks digging ditches around Daisy Farm Park in Highter's Heath and Manningford Park in Druids Heath, and has added a trench and concrete blocks at Chinn Brook, after repeated unauthorised encampments.

A volunteer with the Friends of Chinn Brook group said travellers had arrived up to seven times a year for four years, leaving waste that made the park unsafe for children, and that volunteers had stopped clearing it up. She said the trenches at least showed the council was listening. A former police officer whose home backs onto the green called the trenches an eyesore and doubted they would keep people out for long.
