Brisbane was bracing for its first severe thunderstorm of the season on Thursday morning, with forecasters warning of flash flooding across south-east Queensland, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a flash flood warning for the area between the Sunshine Coast and the New South Wales border, including Brisbane, Caboolture and the Gold Coast hinterland. A storm moving south had already dropped more than 100mm of rain on Caboolture and Morayfield in two hours before dawn.
The storm was expected to pass over the city's north-western and western suburbs towards Ipswich during the morning. Residents were told to move cars away from trees, secure pets, close windows, avoid driving and shelter in a solid building until it had passed. The energy network had not reported power cuts early in the morning.
