Ifeanyi Nwolie, a supporter of Nigeria's opposition Nigeria Democratic Congress who died after being shot during an attack in Enugu State, was buried on Thursday in his home town of Affa, Premium Times reports. The 43-year-old was injured on 10 October when suspected political thugs attacked party supporters at Enugu airport and fired shots at the party's state secretariat during its governorship campaign launch.
The NDC's 2027 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, attended with the party's Enugu governorship candidate, Chinyeaka Ohaa, and other candidates from the south-east. Obi told the family they would not be left to cope alone and called the death a painful loss.
He urged party members and rivals not to resort to violence, saying politics should be about setting out plans for development rather than harming opponents.
