President Donald Trump's main super PAC, MAGA Inc., has spent nearly $277 million since the start of September to support Republican candidates ahead of the 3 November midterms, according to new federal filings reported by PBS NewsHour from the Associated Press.
The total includes transfers of $200 million and $25 million to two affiliated groups that have been running advertising campaigns. A Republican strategist said it was more than any president had spent on midterm elections.
Republicans are defending narrow majorities in both the House and Senate while Mr Trump's approval ratings are low amid frustration over living costs and the war with Iran. The party has, however, held a large financial advantage over Democrats this cycle, helped by wealthy donors including Elon Musk.
