Pope Leo will not need any further treatment for lung cancer, his doctors have said, according to GB News.
The 71-year-old had the lower part of his right lung removed on 13 October after a small nodule found during a check-up at Rome's Gemelli hospital was diagnosed as adenocarcinoma, the type of lung cancer seen most often. He left hospital four days later. His personal physician and his surgeon said tests on the removed tissue showed the cancer had been contained, and an oncology review concluded no more treatment was required.
The Pope appeared in St Peter's Square in the popemobile on Wednesday, his first general audience since 7 October, and thanked people for their prayers. It is not yet confirmed whether his planned November visit to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru will go ahead as scheduled.
