A 39-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after an alleged assault on an Auckland train, 1News reports.
Police were called to reports of disorder on a train near Mt Albert station at about midday on Saturday, and one person was injured. Detective Senior Sergeant Rebecca Kirk said inquiries were continuing into what happened, but police did not believe there was any ongoing risk to the public.
The incident caused delays on the East West and Onehunga West lines.
Auckland Transport said it was concerned by the attack and that everyone using its buses, trains and ferries should be able to travel safely. The agency said passengers make more than 1.8 million public transport trips a week in the city and that such incidents are rare but unacceptable. It said it would help police with their investigation.
