Prince Edward Island RCMP have laid 42 charges against the official agent of the governing Progressive Conservatives over political donations made in 2025, CTV News reports.
The alleged offences under the province's election expenses law include accepting money from ineligible donors, knowingly taking amounts above legal limits, making false statements in filings to the chief electoral officer and failing to meet reporting rules. Elections P.E.I. referred the matter to police in August. CTV calculated that seven donations together exceeded limits by more than $11,000. None of the allegations has been tested in court.
Premier Rob Lantz described the issues as administrative and said the matter would be resolved through the courts. Green leader Matt MacFarlane said the premier should take responsibility. The party said it had co-operated fully and that an independent audit had found its accounts accurate.
