Brazil run-off poll puts Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro level at 50% each

·

A new BTG Pactual/Nexus survey shows President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro tied ahead of Brazil's presidential run-off on Sunday 25 October, The Rio Times reports.

Flávio Bolsonaro has 50.3 per cent of valid votes and Lula 49.7 per cent, a gap well within the two-point margin of error. The same pollster's survey released on 13 October had Bolsonaro ahead by 52 per cent to 48 per cent. Nexus interviewed 2,002 voters between 16 and 18 October, so the poll captures little of the effect of the first run-off debate held on the final day.

Approval of Lula's performance rose 1.9 points to 47.2 per cent, against 48.8 per cent disapproval. Other recent polls, including one from Vox Brasil, have shown Lula slightly ahead.
