The Chinese military has condemned a Chinese student at Moscow State University who is said to have worn Japan's rising sun flag during a class, accusing him of glossing over Japan's militarist past, the South China Morning Post reports. The student, said to be from Nanjing, was confronted by fellow Chinese students after the incident.
Jun Zhengping, a social media account run by the PLA, described the episode as egregious and shocking in a post late on Sunday, saying that promoting militarism was an offence against human conscience wherever it happened. The flag is still used by Japan's Self-Defence Forces, but it is widely regarded in China and other countries as a symbol of Japan's wartime aggression.
