Appeals court convicts Sweden’s former security adviser Landerholm over lost papers

·

Henrik Landerholm, a childhood friend of Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson who served as Sweden's national security adviser, has been convicted of gross negligence with classified information, The Local Sweden reports. The Svea Court of Appeal overturned his acquittal of September 2025 and fined him 80 day-fines of 650 kronor, a total of 52,000 kronor.

Landerholm stepped down in January 2025 after police began investigating claims that he had left classified documents in an unlocked cupboard at a conference hotel north of Stockholm. A lower court had found him careless but cleared him because there was no evidence the papers fell into the wrong hands. The appeal judges said someone in his position, with long experience of handling secret material, must have been considerably careless. Landerholm called the verdict a disappointment.
