India's Home Minister Amit Shah says a coordinated anti-drugs operation across three north-eastern states has dismantled an international narcotics network, The Hindu reports.
Under Operation Trident, central agencies and police in Assam, Mizoram and Manipur raided 38 locations on Friday and arrested 18 people. According to Mr Shah, investigators traced ₹100 crore moved through hawala, an informal money-transfer system. Authorities have since frozen 1,424 bank accounts and attached property valued at ₹17.82 crore. Officers also seized 500 detonators and ₹12 lakh in cash.
Mr Shah said the network moved drugs across India's borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh, and described the raids as a step towards the government's goal of eliminating drug networks by the end of 2029. He congratulated the agencies and state police forces involved.
