A 36-year-old British woman has died in the Bahamas after being swept away while trying to save her two sons during a snorkelling trip, The Guardian reports.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force said the family were snorkelling near the southern tip of North Bimini on Tuesday when a strong current carried the two boys away. Their mother went after them and was also caught by the current. The children were later brought out of the water.
Police said the woman was taken to the ferry dock, where CPR was given, and then to a local clinic, where a doctor pronounced her dead. Officers said foul play was not suspected and an autopsy would be carried out to establish the cause of death. The Foreign Office said it was supporting the family. Bimini is the part of the Bahamas closest to the US mainland.
