Global Affairs Canada has updated its travel advice for Saudi Arabia, telling Canadians to avoid all travel to King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam because of continuing military activity, CTV News reports.
The advisory says missile and drone attacks on Saudi airports have disrupted flights, that the Riyadh airport is closed and that further strikes could close Saudi airspace. Canadians are told to make departure plans that do not depend on government help.
Ottawa also advises against all travel to the provinces of Asir, Jazan and Najran and anywhere within 30km of the Yemeni border. The attacks have been carried out by Yemen's Houthi movement, which Canada listed as a terrorist entity in 2024.
The advisory warns that photographing military sites or damage could bring severe penalties. The US mission in Saudi Arabia has issued a similar warning.
