The Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand has publicly named a former minister, David Wentworth Pimm, as a child sex abuser and released a list of the places he served in the hope that more victims will come forward, 1News reports.
Pimm died in 2014. Over three decades from the mid-1950s he ministered in communities across the South Island and lower North Island, including Ōpōtiki, Hawke's Bay and Palmerston North, as well as a series of short itinerant postings. The church said it was supporting three of his victims and believed there were others.
Assembly executive secretary the Reverend Erin Pendreigh apologised to anyone who had been disbelieved or silenced and said the church was ready to begin redress. Because Pimm is dead, the church cannot take disciplinary action against him. It has published contact details for its redress coordinator for anyone wishing to report abuse.
