The Danish People's Party wants a man from Pakistan removed from Denmark's new citizenship bill over a Facebook post from ten years ago, The Local Denmark reports, citing the broadcaster DR.
The party's citizenship spokesperson, Mikkel Bjørn, says the post supported "Islamist execution". He wants the government to drop the man or at least invite him to an interview with parliament's citizenship committee. The man told DR he could not explain the post but rejected violence and said he respected all religions.
Mr Bjørn says he is checking the social media of all 2,055 applicants on the bill. In Denmark, citizenship by naturalisation is granted by parliamentary law. The government plans to resubmit the stalled bill, while right-wing parties want it paused until a new screening model for anti-democratic views is in place.
